About the Artist
Kevin Conniff has worked in the aerospace industry for over 25 years, including service in support of NASA's Mission To Planet Earth, Earth Observing System - Data and Information System (EOSDIS). During this time, he developed admiration for the engineers and scientists responsible for the design, manufacture, and use of space-based platforms and instruments that enable new insights about the physical properties of our planet and the cosmos.

Of particular interest to Kevin are images acquired by Landsat 7's Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus, operated by the USGS EROS Data Center Satellite Systems Branch. He saw an opportunity to create compilation art by juxtaposing complementary satellite images combined with the EARTH logo first designed by Kevin in 1982.

The circular shape of the EARTH logo is symbolic of our planet and the Sun; the four cardinal points are represented via the north, south, west, and east apex points; the text characters of EARTH show ART in the middle letters, and EARTH as an anagram also spells HEART, which suggests the living nature of our planet; the interior areas of the heart shapes represent the four major interconnected oceans.
